Areas of Specialization
- Extension watershed management specialist for Oregon, specializing in hydrology, low impact development practices, stream processes and water quality. Works with a team of Extension watershed educators http://seagrant.oregonstate.edu/wsep/index.html.
- Provides education to many audiences including elected officials, home owners, planning and public works department staff, consultants, landscapers, watershed councils and neighborhood associations.
- Provides education in a variety of formats including workshops, short courses, field tours, hands-on training, forums and presentations.
Current Research and Outreach/Extension Education
- The Master Watershed Steward program http://seagrant.oregonstate.edu/wsep/master.html
- Various education programs include practices to reduce land development impacts on stormwater and water quality (low impact development), rain gardens, urban forest practices, stream processes, streambank erosion and stabilization, and stream temperature monitoring.
- Our education efforts are part of National NEMO program http://nemonet.uconn.edu/. We are also partnering with the Oregon Environmental Council to deliver low impact development education workshops http://www.oeconline.org/our-work/rivers/low-impact-development.
- One of our new projects is called SWAMP – StormWater Assessment and Management decision-support Process – a web-based tool to help developers, planning departments and public works departments in coastal communities. Godwin contributed to 4 chapters and served as team leader in developing the guide. Godwin has also developed training materials for the program in Oregon which have been adapted in four other states.
